California Nurses Endorse Marie Panec for Congress!

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organizing Committee has endorsed Marie Panec, Democrat, for the U.S. Congress, in CA-24 – most of Ventura and Santa Barbara Counties. The primary election.is on June 8, 2010.

CNA/NNOC is a professional association that represents 86,000 registered nurses throughout the nation.

In announcing the endorsement, Malinda Markowitz RN, co-president of the organization, said, “We are impressed with Marie Panec’s depth of experience and devoted service to the community. She’s got true character and compassion.”

Markowitz went on to say, “We trust Marie’s strong commitment to education through her work with students as both a college professor and a School Boardmember. We share Marie’s values based vision of treating healthcare as a right and making it available to all. We believe that Marie will do an excellent job in representing California’s 24th District on education, health, labor, environmental and women's issues.

Panec had this to say in response, “I am thrilled to be endorsed by the California Nurses. They are staunch advocates on behalf of nurses and working families. They’ve been on the forefront of protecting patients’ rights and tenacious on single payer healthcare. Providing universal access to healthcare is not only consistent with American values, it is just plain common sense.”

Marie Panec is the only member of a labor association in this race for the Democratic nomination. This ringing endorsement by the influential California Nurses means that nurses are now joining a growing coalition of educators, community leaders and students and who are coming together to support the campaign of the only candidate with proven experience and qualifications, who best represents them, and can win in November - Marie Panec!
